Son Of The Ost
Kiran Tayler Mac Beith was born in the city of Jasmine on 1st day of the Second Hand of the Month of Se'Var (10) in the Year 10,150 C.A. to Trevan Kriostor Mac Beith, a spice merchant, and Ofelia Honor, an artisan turned merchant. Life was happy the first two En'vars of his life, and he was doted upon by both parents, but when one became less available his father took matters into his own hands, taking custody of young Kiran and dissolving the companionship between he and Ofelia.
It was the move from Jasmine to Jorts Ferry that a custody battle began, and despite his father's becoming Se'Merchant to the city of Jorts Ferry, he had to fight to keep his only child. Trevan won, and life continued. But he was lonely, and that resulted in his freeing his longtime kajira, Shinnan Mac Greine, to become his free companion, and Kiran soon had a new little brother named Camarius Aidan, named both for Trevan's father and Shinnan's father. Shinnan soon replaced the mother that he lost in those early years, and served in that capacity for several years until the age of 5, when Trevan re-collared her, and she became his slave once again.
It was at that point that his father developed a desire to move back to his childhood home, Ananda Estates, to raise two growing boys. The women in his life faded in and out, none ever filling the void of a mother that Kiran needed, but found in his own father's care and love. Kiran was groomed for the merchant caste by the time he was five. He was brought to his first En'Kara faire, and shouted his father's sales calls for him in the merchant tents. He's still doing it now, with the memory of his father's training still flowing fresh in his veins. A woman had swept his father off his feet, and soon they were courting. Then they were joined.
Her name was Lady Cameron, and Kiran thought she was pretty and made his father happy, finally, it seemed. He had a mother to go to during his formative En'Vars, while he was growing from a boy to a man. One day, the one man in his life left Ananda Estates to head for the jungle, since Trevan was an adopted Ushindian native, courtesy of his grandmother, Naia. Two hands later, he returned deathly ill, from an infection that had set in and was intractable. A fever raged on in his father's brain, and he slipped into a coma, and never awoke from it. No words were ever spoken at the pyre, a private one just for the family. But if there were words to say, they would be... "Father, you were the Tor tu Gor, and my moon. No day or night shall ever fade away without a thought of you. Thank you for making my life so special, and I will honor your name as long as I breathe."
A child was born of the union of Trevan and Cameron. Her name was Azuri Trinity, and she grew up for most of her life, not knowing the father that gave her life. Kiran fills in the gaps for her when she gets the same look on her face that her father used to have, and he like Trevan, has inordinate amounts of patience in which to teach and mold, and nuture his sister and brother. Thrust into responsibility at an early age, he still has a tendency to act like a kid, by playing with his siblings, or the kalika that his father demanded he play as a part of being "cultured." Trevan always wanted the best for his children, including an education, so Kiran can read and write, among many other things.
He has grown far older than his 25 En'var, and it can be seen in his aquamarine eyes that he has endured a lot of tragedy in his short life. But he has hope for a future as a merchant, as a companion, and perhaps a father someday with a special, lucky woman brought to him by the Priest Kings. For now, he remains with his family at Ananda Estates, Schendi, running Moonlight Whispers Spice and Herbal Enterprises, and Almasi Mines, until his little sister, Azuri is old enough to take on the responsibility. Camarius runs the plantation.
Then a miracle from the Priest Kings happened. On the 4th day of the Fifth hand of the month of Se'Var (10) in the Year 10, 157 C.A., he met a lady named Xanthippe Vogt in a garden near Schendi. The two hit it off so well, it was if they had been born kindred in spirit. They were drawn to each other spiritually, mentally and physically. It was a promise to visit Schendi after the fair, that kept Kiran's hope alive. But it never came to pass, for Xan felt strongly that Kiran was the man for her and came to visit Schendi, and be embraced by all she thought she had lost during her youth, love, tenderness and caring. Kiran asked her to be his, and she has agreed to become his free companion.
On the 4th day of the Third Hand of the Month of Bakah (11) in the Year 10,157 CA, at the Se'Var Faire, Administrator Lukas Falconaire asked Kiran to become the En'Merchant of the City of Schendi, and Kiran said yes. He hopes to restore the honor and pride to the merchant caste of his Home Stone.
